Welcome to Man‑O‑War Cay, a charming and historic cay nestled in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas. At roughly 2½ miles long and less than half a mile across at its narrowest, this tight-knit community is famed as the boat‑building capital of the Bahamas and stands out as a “dry” cay—no alcohol is sold locally, though you’re free to bring your own.
On one side of the cay lies a protected natural harbour facing Marsh Harbour, while opposite stretches a sugar-white beach kissed by the Atlantic’s crystalline waters . A local footpath, winding north from the sail‑and‑gift shops, leads past tranquil cove points and vistas where Atlantic surf meets the calm Sea of Abaco—an ideal stroll to stretch your legs.
Arriving in 1798, British Loyalists planted roots here after fleeing the American Revolution, and today nearly 70% of residents are Albury descendants from those founding families. The community’s deep boat‑building tradition dates back to the 1880s, pioneered by William H. Albury and still carried on in wood and fiberglass by artisans like Joe Albury and the Albury Brothers. A stroll past historic yards and sea‑spray docks shows how “homes here are built like ships”—an architectural resilience evident since Hurricane Dorian's destructive visit in 2019.
